WOW Factor Wednesday | Loretta Rossomondo (Lake Ridge)
This week we launched a mentoring program as part of an eight-week hands-on roadmap for success. Anyone looking to emulate the fundamentals of a top-producing agent will now have the opportunity to do so while having an experienced co-pilot at the helm guiding them every step of the way. This program, which we’re calling Foundations for Success, originated from the organic mentoring that happens in each of our offices but had yet to be put to paper. While each office has its own set of de facto mentors, today we feature Loretta Rossomondo whose leadership and innate proclivity for teaching helped a brand new agent navigate one of his first transactions, leading him down the road to over $1.4M in sales in just seven months!
Loretta always wanted to get into real estate. Even as a motorcycle safety instructor at Quantico, Loretta longed for the day she could go from sending people down the open road to sending people down the road to homeownership. A natural educator and a self-described “Air force brat” who settled in Northern Virginia with her family in the 70’s, Loretta continues to volunteer for the USO at Fort Belvoir while taking up the role as a resource and a mentor for both new and seasoned agents in her Lake Ridge office. Her role as a mentor came from an intrinsic urge to lend a helping hand and to give back to an office that helped her when she was first finding her way in the real estate industry.
“When I first started, I got a lot of help from a couple of mentors. It wasn’t necessarily structured, but I took a ton of classes. It would have been nice to have had a system like Foundations for Success to follow when I first started, but I’m a lifetime student and will always be looking for ways to educate myself because things are always changing. Recently, I had someone who wanted to leave a listing as active in the MLS (even with a ratified contract) when we were putting a contingent contract on. This was in violation of MRIS! There are so many nuances with this business that you have to know a little bit of everything.” – Loretta
It was her desire for continuous knowledge that brought her to Avery-Hess, and it’s one of the many reasons she’s stayed.
“I really liked the atmosphere at Avery-Hess. It’s a different type of atmosphere that’s small and where we all succeed. I’ve looked at other companies, obviously, but I didn’t want to be a small fish in a big pond. I like it when everyone’s doing well.” – Loretta
By helping others, Loretta ensures a collaborative and successful office environment for herself and her colleagues. One newer agent who has benefitted from this rising tide of sorts is Teddy Spittal.
On the Road to Over $1.4M
Teddy knew Loretta years before coming to Avery-Hess. At that time he was working in the tech industry doing business development but, like Loretta, was itching to change careers and become a real estate agent. She sold Teddy on the Avery-Hess culture and agreed to become his mentor as a bonus once he received his license.
From joint open houses and settlements to listing presentations and contract signings, Loretta showed Teddy the ropes while he soaked in every bit of it. He attended her events and she responded in kind while lending him advice when needed.
“Loretta is extremely giving and does so without expecting anything in return. She is always there to give me advice and take me through contracts and various processes step by step – and I’ve seen her do this without hesitation for other agents. Along with Mark [Holyfield, Managing Broker] Loretta boosted my confidence because I knew I always had someone who had my back.” – Teddy
Loretta took the stress out of complex transactions and gave much needed advice on managing convoluted contracts. One of Teddy’s early transactions was particularly challenging. After contacting Teddy one evening to see a property, the client wanted to immediately start the purchase process.
The client asked to meet at the office first thing the next morning and begin negotiating. Teddy called Loretta on the way home from the showing and asked if Loretta was going to be in the office the next day and would she be willing to sit in on their meeting. Of course, she said yes.
“This was only my 3rd transaction, and because of the accelerated time-frame, I really wanted to ensure that everything was done accurately, and that I would provide the best possible service to my client. To do that I knew that Loretta’s experience and guidance would be invaluable. I needed her at the meeting!” – Teddy
With Loretta there, the meeting went a lot smoother than Teddy had originally anticipated. Loretta helped guide Teddy when filling in the unique terms of the contract and Teddy was able to seamlessly turn to Loretta whenever he felt there was a sticking point or if the client asked questions for which Teddy didn’t already have the answer. The negotiations went on for another week, but with Loretta’s help, Teddy was able to get the client a wonderful deal. The client later came back to Teddy to help complete another purchase.
With Loretta’s guidance, Teddy completed sales totaling more than $1.4M in about 7 months. Not a bad first year! Teddy credits a lot of his success to his mentor. Thanks to agents like Loretta and now with the Foundations for Success mentoring program underway, the newer Teddys of Avery-Hess will never be left to fend for themselves in the treacherous ocean of real estate. Like Loretta so aptly put it, it’s better to swim in an ecosystem where everyone is doing well.
