I initially was attracted to Avery Hess’ culture of excellence and collaboration created by Scott Avery and Dave Hess as part of a locally owned company. Our technology is second to none – anywhere. My leadership positions in Realtors associations at all levels, along with 25 years of working with buyers and sellers daily gives me the knowledge to train newer agents and advise more experienced ones when they need help in any aspect of their business.”

I’m a Maryland native and licensed realtor who combines a head for number crunching and investing with an eye for architecture and renovation. I have worked in investor accounting and acquisitions, and run a computer consulting business. As a realtor, I also draw on my expertise in buying, refurbishing, and renting out investment properties, and am able to advise clients how to do the same.

A house can become a big source of income, and I’m always looking for solid properties and the best possible value for my clients. Some houses have good bones – all you need to do is repaint the cabinets. Others require more work. I can spot the difference. When I walk into a place, I just know what needs to be done – from inexpensive, quick fixes, to big overhauls. It’s a system that’s worked well for me, as I tend to keep tenants for years at a time.

I’ve always loved houses and analyzing different neighborhoods. I grew up around buildings, remodeling projects and beautiful architecture – all of which drew me toward wanting to invest in properties of my own. My dad and my uncles ran the family-owned business Stefanelli Brothers, which dealt in ceramic and imported Italian tile. I’ve lived in Rockville, Carroll County, Capitol Hill, Potomac, Annapolis, and Alexandria. I spend hours on MRIS studying price differences: comparing, analyzing and choosing the best value.

I have a broad knowledge base in business and accounting, stemming from my earlier career at Standard Federal, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac. I can walk clients through the whole process, from the beginning of a home search to settlement, and beyond. I know escrow accounts inside and out.

As important as houses are to me, we’re an outdoorsy family. It’s hard to think of another area that would compare in terms of all the recreations that’s so close by. I spend a lot of time walking and fishing at the C&O Canal with my three kids. We go hiking at Sugarloaf Mountain and on the Appalachian Trail. I’m also passionate about the environment, so we pick up trash alongside the Canal, and I have adopted a road in Montgomery County.

I found Avery Hess Realtors when the market took a down turn and I saw that the company I had been with for 10 years had nothing to offer me in the way of business growth and Agent support. I saw that Avery-Hess was actually growing during the down time and that the support for their Agents was tremendous, so I switched! I understand what the Agents needs are since I am there working in the field too, in our office we all support and help each other, it is a great atmosphere!

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I used to be a college Radio DeeJay, WVCW at VCU we called it “radio for the deaf.” I did it mostly for the press pass & got to meet a lot of musicians back in the day.

Originally licensed as a sales person in Maryland in July 1977, David obtained his Virginia sales associate license in 1980. David is the Principal Broker for Avery-Hess, Realtors for Maryland and Washington, DC. He is an Associate Broker for the firm in Virginia. He is also the Principal Broker for Avery-Hess, Referral Services in Virginia and Maryland. David also has a mobile home dealer license issued by the State of Florida where he is a stockholder and officer of companies that manage mobile home parks and sell mobile homes.

He has received the Distinguished Service Award from Worldwide ERC for his training around the country on the standardized BPO Form. His department regularly wins awards for being the top or one of the top brokers in the region and country from both Relocation and REO clients.

Katja is overseeing several revenue departments for Avery-Hess, Realtors and serves as a point of contact to all of the agents and staff. Her responsibilities include overseeing the Property Management Department, managing the e-lead Division, building vendor relations, and general business development. She brings a broad spectrum of experience that ranges from International Sales and Marketing to Customer Service Relations. Prior to joining Avery-Hess, Ms. Hom worked with the German Government, Fairfax County Government and The Washington Post Foreign Desk, where she had been the main liaison for several aspects of the business.

Ms. Hom is currently the co-chair for the YPN Committee at the Northern Virginia Realtor Board and was selected to participate in the NVAR Leadership Institute 2012.

Hailing originally from Berlin, Ms. Hom has lived in the DC area for almost 20 years and currently resides in McLean.

Traversing the digital landscape with intentional marketing, Andrew comes to Avery-Hess specializing in SEO, online advertising, email marketing, social media, analytics, content creation, and lead generation. Along with his duties overseeing the look and feel of Avery-Hess in both digital and print media, as Director of Marketing, Andrew manages the department that oversees all of the company’s web properties, signs and other promotional materials, internal and external company communication, Teal for Good charity, and anything else with the company brand/logo on it.

Prior to Avery-Hess, Andrew was a DC area marketing professional satisfying the needs of local, small businesses by growing their reputation and customer base online. He did this with a small firm before opening up his own independent consultancy eponymously dubbed Local Lander.

A DC native, he holds both an MA in Communication, Culture and Technology from Georgetown University and a BA in Communication Studies from the University of Michigan.
